Wow, today’s BOS meeting has gone through a LOT of stuff!

Christmas displays (yes); staggered terms (no); pay raises for the BOS and perhaps to go to a full-time board (come back with more info); give school overage back to the teachers to cover the furlough days (no).

And that’s just a start.

I’m home sick today, so I’ve been watching the whole thing. I am fascinated.

In this economy is not the time to be thinking how to get more money from the tax payers or grants which are still coming from my taxes.

The motto should be “”” Do more with less “””

Your husbands timing in this economy could not be worse.

This economy could be in bad shape for the next tens years or more.

Example; The second phase of metro coming out here, most likely will be delayed for a lot of years because of the economy and the possibility of National opened to long distance flights.

We don’t need this costly and not finished mapped bay act at the moment, we do not need McG’s taxpayer funded energy policy at the moment, who knows how much money she and her cronies will privately make off this. oops i am sorry it is free money from the feds in the way of a grant 😉 I guess my federal tax dollars don’t count that help fund this.

Everybody is for saving the environment and the earth and energy. But timing is everything. Believe me the private sector does not need some bureaucrat tell us how to save energy or the environment. We have been building more and more greener and greener homes  and we where one of the first to use geo thermal.  Unfortunately those systems are more feel good and will never recoup the money put into them. And who knows for sure how green the manufacturer of the parts to these systems is green. And these new light bulbs come with their own problems such as mercury.

Stevens asked for the staff to look into making the job of Supervisor full-time with comparable pay to the constitutional officers.

Since he voluntarily took a 10% pay cut when the board reduced other salaries, despite the fact that he’s got the largest district, I’m thinking he’s actually got some credibility here.

Increasing the salary increases the likelihood of a good challenger both in a primary and in the general.

Not all employers are as understanding of the time demands involved in being a supervisor as the LCPS. Not all people who would like to be supervisors run their own advocacy groups. Not all people who would like to be supervisors have spouses who can support the family financially (cough). Aside from the retirees on the board, that pretty much sums up what we’ve got in the way of Supervisors.

You may disagree, and that’s fine, but it’s a reasonable thing to ask for more information about.

Full disclosure, I’m married to Stevens so a pay raise for him would be good for me. OTOH, I was fine with him taking a pay cut. And I was fine with him running for a seat that makes less than $20K a year. Our family’s finances are tight, but we make it work – because the work that Stevens is doing is worth it.

The point is, this is how our School Board and Hatrick want to run the school system by inflaming anyone they can, instead of living in reality and doing more with less like the REAL people in this county must do.

And Miller asking that the BOS position should be full time and compensated accordingly is insane in this economy.

Especially at the fed level there should be less people and less compensation, they have the security and benefits like non of us do in the private sector. And the BS that you can’t find good people is also insane. In this economy many talented people would be happy just to have a job. The Loudoun school system had no problem filling almost 350 teacher positions this year. So what does that tell us????? The are many many qualified people out there just happy to have a job in this economy, much less a raise.

this is a disturbing message sent out to all teachers yesterday after the vote.

Is Hatrick and the school board going to use the teachers again and students as pawns. Instead of figuring out how to do more with less. Loudoun is broke.

Wow, that is very disturbing! Most folks are happy just to have a job these days and would gladly accept a few furlough days to stay employed. It would be great if somebody would post a copy of the message. ” “””””””” http://www.leesburg2day.com/ar

Me and my wife both come from families where we had 6 brother and sisters.

That is why we only had two ha ha ha ha

Nothing wrong with big families as long as the parents can take care of them and give them all the attention the kids need. The world is very different for kids then when I grew up. Far more restrictive, and those restrictions at times has led some kids to reach out for attention in many negative ways these days.

Then again some of the so called worse kids I grew up with have become some of the best parents and have been extremely successful in work mostly entrepreneurs.

So who knows what really works and does not work when we are growing up. 😉

And what’s wrong with kids? There are way too many people speaking out in Loudoun who seem to have a visceral negative reaction to families with kids. When you were a kid, your community supported and educated you. It’s time to repay that kindness.

Miller asking for a raise in this economy is insane.

People should be happy they even have a job.

I am in the building business and talk about how bad things can get, then talk to me.

As a side not if we don’t get a interchange at rt 7 and countryside for approval of Lerner’s proposed new town center at the mall heads will roll next election. I will even go further the Lerners should pony up the money or a school site for their proposed suburban housing NOT urban housing.

Suburban housing equals many more kids, URBAN housing equals mostly singles and married without children.
