Speaking of conservative bad taste

Perhaps the most callous letter of all time appears in today’s Leesburg Today. Supervisor Delgaudio has a classy klan of apologists, doesn’t he.

Dear Editor: Too bad for Supervisor Delgaudio.

If, instead of doing something that couldn’t get him charged by a grand jury, he had shot and killed an unarmed woman off her meds in Costco, he would have been given a clean bill of health by Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman and the Board of Supervisors would have said nothing.

Leesburg Today ran a very critical editorial of Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio’s latest LCRC antics, but the criticism, “Stop the Circus,” didn’t go far enough in exposing Supervisor Delgaudio operations.

He was putting on a political show—one, like so many during his 14-year board tenure, that was woefully short on substance, but with potential to help fuel his campaign fundraising machine. Continue reading →

Breaking: Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro Endorses Mary Daniel

Mary Daniel, Democratic Candidate for Virginia’s 33rd House District, announced Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro’s endorsement today.

In endorsing Daniel, Mayor Lazaro stated: “I am pleased to express my full support for Mary Daniel as our next Delegate for the 33rd District. ‘We actually did a mitzvah’

Craig Weintraub (no relation) and Jay Schlachet, the lawyers who represented Ariel Castro, “the 53-year-old former school bus driver who kept Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight captive in his house for about a decade” have an exclusive interview in the Cleveland Jewish News. “Weintraub and Schlachet, who are Jewish, stressed that their faith figured in how they represented Castro in a case that ran 90 days from start to finish and continues to bring worldwide attention to Cleveland.”

Despite the “sensational allegations” against him, Castro was entitled to counsel, said Schlachet. “We knew that we picked an unpopular cause to champion, and frankly, from a personal standpoint, I think it’s important to represent unpopular causes because, first of all, it’s what we took an oath to do, and it’s completely consistent with my Jewish upbringing. Survey Says: We’re Winning and Dave LaRock Is Still Anti-Gay

I received Dave LaRock’s latest campaign mailer today. He’s the Christian Nationalist who, with the help of Eugene Delgaudio and the anti-metro campaign, was able to mobilize Loudoun’s anti-establishment Republicans to defeat Joe May in the VA 33rd House District Republican primary. The mailer contains five issue points. The final point reads:

“Conservative Values: Pro-Life and Pro-Second Amendment, Dave will be a rock-solid leader in standing up for our families, communities and conservative principles.”

Hey, but wait, what about being pro-one-man-one-woman-biblical-marriage? We know from Dave’s history, that he and his 1789 Project are virulently anti-gay, gag me. So, where’s the wedding cake? It’s missing, hopefully forever, because it is no longer fashionable to be anti-gay.

My, how things change, rapidly. We must be winning and Mr. LaRock must be scared. But don’t be fooled. His anti-gay arsenal is locked and loaded.

“Limited” War In Syria – Really?

Syrian dead – from nerve gas?

Right now we have elected officials in the U.S. Congress from both parties denouncing any military involvement in Syria.

The public is against us getting involved in this brutal civil war.

President Barack Obama, however, wants to travel a different road.

The President’s avowed reason to force a “limited” aerial attack against Syria, notwithstanding the congressional and public resistance, is because the Syrian government in a civil war that has tallied more than 100,000 dead has recently used chemical weapons killing a thousand or more innocent women and children.

President Obama’s advisers believe the President shall suffer “a credibility gap” if he doesn’t act, to “punish” Syria for using chemical weapons since the President told Syria a year ago, “not to do it – or else.”

There is no international treaty or law against killing women and children in war.

But we say we care if it happens with chemical weapons.

We have no problem if either side in Syria blows up women and children with bombs and bullets. Continue reading →

Deny Supervisor Delgaudio’s Funding Request

The Loudoun County BoS will vote on a request to grant Supervisor about $5,000 for a campaign newsletter. If the BoS understands the purpose of the newsletter, they’ll deny the request. Regarding the situation, there’s a good letter in the online version of the Leesburg Today that exposes the machinations of Supervisor Delgaudio’s use of taxpayer funded newsletters. The letter also demonstrates the possible illegal collaboration between the Sterling Supervisor and Dave LaRock’s 33rd House District campaign.

How much information was shared? Were voter lists shared? Was the value of the information reported as an in-kind contribution? There are many, many outstanding questions. The letter is inlined below, emphasis mine. Continue reading →

Redefining Bakery

Have you ever heard of a Christian bakery?

I’ve been to many bakeries in my life. French bakeries, Italian bakeries, European bakeries, Mexican bakeries, but never a Christian bakery. The term just popped up because a so-called “Christian bakery,” Sweet Cakes by Melissa closed over a controversy. The owners refused to bake a cake for a client’s wedding because they thought the “act” of baking the cake violated their religious liberty. In Yiddish, we’d say the act was treif, but treif refers to products, not acts, and that’s where the people who orchestrated this controversy run into trouble.

The Oregon Family Policy Council, sister to our Virginia [some] Families Foundation placed a sign in the closed bakery reading:

Racism rears head in mayoral run

I’m reprinting an op-ed from the Cleveland Jewish News titled Racism rears head in mayoral run because the pattern of fear-mongering, hate and corruption is all too familiar. We have allies fighting the same battles all over the world. Bravo to Cliff Savern for the brave post. It isn’t easy for Jews to stick up for Arabs in Israel.

RA’ANANA, Israel – Israel defines itself as both a Jewish and democratic state. One of the most interesting aspects of this is how the country resolves potential conflicts between the two. I think it’s fair to say that overwhelmingly, the legal system resolves them in favor of democracy, but one public official, Shimon Gapso, is advocating a swing in the other direction in his ugly campaign for re-election as mayor of Upper Nazareth.
